Other Ways to Give
Many families request that relatives and friends make an In Memoriam donation when they lose a loved one. It’s a meaningful way to express sympathy to the bereaved family. Also, many people having milestone birthday celebrations as well as brides and grooms opting to have donations made to a charity in place of gifts. You will find Donation Cards at various funeral homes, retirement centres and at our partner sites. Also, we have a great inventory of celebration cards that we would be more than happy to deliver to you in time for your special Celebration.
Third Party Events
A Third Party Event is when an unaffiliated individual or organization chooses to run an event where all proceeds benefit an organization. Third party fundraising is an area that can provide significant revenue for ICHM Canada. Beyond the dollars they generate, every event helps propel our organization and the ministries we support to a top-of-mind position in the community. One only need look at how many times one is asked to, for example, “see or buy pink” to understand the power of third party fundraising.
Grants
Project or program specific grants and sponsorship opportunities are available to all not-for-profit organizations. We know that the key to successful grant and sponsorship requests is to understand as clearly as possible the philosophy of the funding body, their benevolent focus and their corporate culture.
Planned Giving
Substantial gifts given as bequests or, charitable annuities, which are often planned by the donor to be distributed after his or her death.
Bequests: Plan for a gift now, but donate it later. The estate will be eligible for a tax receipt that can be used in the year of death and the preceding year. Funds are usually bequeathed as a:
- Residual amount (e.g., a share or, percentage of your estate)
- Specific dollar amount, a specific piece of personal use or other property
Life Insurance: ICHM Canada welcomes gifts of life insurance. Donors can donate life insurance by transferring ownership and beneficiary status of an existing or new policy to ICHM Canada, or can simply name ICHM Canada as the beneficiary of an existing policy. Gifts of life insurance are made by transferring ownership of an existing or new policy to ICHM Canada. Donors will receive a tax receipt for premiums paid after the date of transfer. A donor can also name ICHM Canada as the beneficiary of a policy—the resulting tax credit will reduce estate taxes and increase the after-tax value of their estate for other beneficiaries. A gift of life insurance is an affordable way to make a difference. A modest annual premium paid over time will result in a significant future legacy.
Stocks & Securities: Donating publicly traded stock and securities is a tax-smart way to support ICHM Canada. Donors will receive a tax receipt for the full appreciated value of a donation of publicly traded stock or securities, and will not be subject to any capital gains tax. The simplest way to make a gift of stock or securities is to have the shares electronically transferred from their account to our account. The receipt value will be based on the closing trading price on the day ICHM Canada receives delivery of the shares.
