Henry Fischer

…is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario and Waterloo Lutheran Seminary. He established Faith Lutheran Church in Oshawa in 1965 and played a leading role in the development of Faith Place, a senior citizen high rise apartment complex in downtown Oshawa that also houses the congregation and provides a place of worship. The Reverend Fischer became Executive Director of Faith Lutheran Ministries. He was also active in the community including the development of Cornerstone; was President of the Social Planning Council of Oshawa; a volunteer at the Distress Centre; and assisted in the development of the Family Counselling Services of Oshawa. He was one of the co-founders of what became InterChurch Health Ministries and became Executive Director in 1996 at the time of the first Pilot Projects. The Reverend Fischer became the theological mentor of the development of the educational programme as well as the “evangelist” for Parish Nursing Ministry. He was key in the development of our then affiliate in New Brunswick and current affiliate in Saskatoon. The Reverend Fischer is currently retired and the author of five books with a sixth book is in the process of publication. He is just shy of being 80 years old. To read more about Henry, click here.
