Education and Support Programs

Since the inception of the five pilot projects in Parish Nursing Ministry in 1995, InterChurch Health Ministries Canada has recognized the pioneering nature of the ministry and has committed itself to the ongoing support of Parish Nurses and congregations through regular Professional Practice Group meetings. In an atmosphere of comfort and respect, maintaining confidentiality, the Parish Nurse Professional Practice Group provides Parish Nurses with the opportunity to share and learn as they grow and mature in their role. Participation in a Parish Nurse Professional Practice Group is a required part of the Parish Nurse Candidate experience within the Parish Nursing Ministry Education Program. Parish Nurse Graduates find that their ongoing participation in these groups is very beneficial to their ministry.

Regular, regional, monthly meetings take place or by Skype for partners located at a distance. Each group has a convener who facilitates the meetings to ensure that participants have an opportunity for confidential peer group sharing and theological reflection on their ministry.

Convenors maintain an ongoing contact with the Regional Parish Nurse Coordinator to facilitate communication and sharing of information and resources.
